by Kay Gardner, Director of NOVA Pregnancy Center of Fairfax
Only on one condition would he join his daughter for an ultrasound at the NOVA Pregnancy Help Center – if she promised to go to the abortion clinic the next day for the required consultation. Her father continued to declare, “You have no business having this baby. Abort it!”
Our client “Gina” was not a pregnant teen with an irate parent. She was 40 years old and college educated, but poor decisions led to moving back to the ‘family’ home. Though she held a job, finances were meager.
Resolute in exploring her options, Gina scheduled an ultrasound at our NOVA Pregnancy Center of Fairfax. She had many fears including the loss of housing, fetal abnormalities due to her health issues and rejection from the baby’s father. This hurting woman’s counselor encouraged her to continue her pregnancy despite her fears. She said that “God has a way of offering His strength in times of weakness. He will prove Himself strong in the midst of this trial.”
Because of the free ultrasound from SLM, Gina said she felt more assured of her baby’s life seeing the activity in the womb. Rebuffing her father’s abortion ‘solution’ she had to move out of his home, but a kind co-worker offered her a place to live and loaned her a car. Though Gina’s relationship with her father was somewhat strained because of her decision, they were still speaking. And she sensed that the baby’s father may ultimately want to know his daughter.
The last time we saw Gina she came in and brought her 3 month old baby girl. She happily affirmed that “things are working out.” Even the baby’s grandfather had become devoted to his tiny family newcomer.
We are thankful for our donors who support our presence in offering free ultrasounds so women like Gina can see their unborn baby and choose life! During this Thanksgiving month, please remember how thankful we are for you all! Join us in thanking our Heavenly Father for all of his good and precious gifts.
“Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving;
let us shout with songs of praise to Him.” (Psalm 95:2 ISV)
